*Abarat 2: Days of Magic, Nights of War by Clive Barker
It's hard to hate Christopher Carrion completely without feeling a tinge of sympathy for him as well. He is all wickedness, cruelty, sorrow, despair, and nightmares with a touch of sentimentality and the romantic in him. He loves his nightmares as much as he loves poetry. He is such a complicated creature and it'd be cruel to end his life prematurely without exploring his personality deeper. I hope the author keeps him alive until the last book.

Candy nodded. "I guess in my heart of hearts i don't really want to go," she admitted. "Then don't," said Finnegan. "If it hurts to leave, then stay." (p. 367)
