21. A Many Splendored Thing

*A Many Splendored Thing by Han Su Yin

This book got me depressed for three months after i finished the translation. Seriously. I delved so deeply into the heroine's life that her mood was my mood, her pain was my pain, and it was not easy to just shake it off after the last page was over. And her love life was indeed painful, tragic. Despite her optimistic nature, the entire mood of this book was sombre. Yet it's not a tear-jerker kind of book. You may shed a tear or two. You sniffle a little. But you don't really cry. Which makes it even more painful.
